Balloon Fiesta attendance and impact flying high

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —The 44th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta attracted an estimated 955,703 visitors to the area – up more than 100,000 and almost 13 percent over 2014’s estimated attendance.

STR Inc. reported a 5 percent increase in hotel occupancy over last year during Balloon Fiesta, and the average daily hotel rate increased by more than 15 percent over last year. Revenue per available room rate increased by 20.6 percent.

Balloon Fiesta registration included more than 550 teams this year, representing 44 states and 17 countries. The balloons participating included 105 special-shape balloons. Next year’s balloon fiesta is planned for Oct. 1-9, 2016.
