New Mexico saw industry job growth in May

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Several industries posted job growth in New Mexico last month, resulting in an overall job increase of 8,200 jobs, or 1 percent. Education and health services added 5,000 of those jobs, outpacing all other sectors with 53 percent of job gains in the state over last year.

Other industries doing well include leisure and hospitality, up by 1,900 jobs and professional and business services, which grew by 1,300 jobs. Wholesale trade was also up by 600 jobs with information services up 400 and financial activities with an increase of 300 jobs.

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions released this information and also says May was the state’s 33rd straight month of employment growth, year over year. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.2 percent last month in New Mexico.
